LOS 5 DE GUADALAJARA features the works of 5 established & talented artists from Guadalajara, artists that are extremely active in the art scene in Mexico’s 2nd largest metropolitan area.
Ignacio Guerrero, Claudia Nery and Leticia Schmidt have all been showing at Galeria de Ida Victoria for years and already have a strong collector base in Los Cabos, & they have invited Lila Luna and Laura Villanueva to join them in this group exhibition.
The work is bold, colorful, graphic and surreal. Very much like Mexico would be described. All 5 have such unique styles and their works are instantly recognizable, drawing from the abundance of Mexico’s art and cultural history- the influences of Mexico’s masters is evident, but the works are all their own.
“Join us!! I couldn’t think of a better way to officially end the exhibition season than with a show that is so full of life, color, fantasy and whimsy!” -Ida Victoria

From an early age Ignacio Guerrero showed a strong inclination in the arts which led to a degree in Graphic Design from the University of Guadalajara. He began his professional career as an illustrator and for the next 20 years worked in various advertising agencies, climbing up the ladder until he became an art director. He missed creating his fine art, and abandoned his prestigious position to devote himself full time to his own work- painting and drawing as a modern surrealist artist. He has exhibited in over 50 solo and groups shows in Mexico, Portugal, Italy, New York and Australia and has works in private collections around the world.

Born in Guadalajara, in 1963 Claudia graduated with a degree in Architecture from the city’s famous University. She now devotes herself full time to her fine art painting and has had shows all over Mexico as well as in the US, Argentina and Switzerland. Claudia’s unique technique of painting in mixed media on paper and canvas incorporates bold color and shape with extreme detail that she creates using diluted inks as well as tools to etch into the paint- drawing over the under painting- resulting in a detailed multi-dimensional final product. The subject and theme of Claudia’s work is a combination of personal reflection and the influence of Pre-Hispanic & modern Mexican culture through symbolism. Her work, through her characters has a playful surreal quality but retains its sophisticated edge through technique, color and composition.

Laura combines oil and acrylic on her canvases and also works in the mediums of drawing and printmaking. She has participated in over 50 group exhibitions and 6 solo shows and she has been awarded with various recognitions for her work and is considered one of Jalisco State’s most promising talents.

Leticia began her professional training in Graphic Design at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara and participated in various Fine Art workshops with the top artists in Guadalajara in their specific fields. A professor encouraged Leticia to pursue her dreams to become a professional artist. She has worked in watercolor, oil and acrylic and most recently has fallen in love with the medium of encaustic wax. She describes her work as”harmonic compositions that communicate feelings of well-being within ones self and their surroundings.” Her newest works in encaustic wax take her love of texture and her color palette to a new level while still maintaining her usual symbols of love, happiness, prosperity and well-being that have been a constant in her work. Leticia has participated in hundreds of group and solo exhibitions not only in Guadalajara but other major cities in Mexico as well as in Miami, New York, Argentina and Valencia in the Canary Islands.

Lili Luna was also born and raised in Guadalajara and majored in illustration at the University of the same name. Lili creates her mysterious worlds in acrylic on various supports including canvas, wood and paper. Her palette of dark colors is reminiscent of the palette of Mexican surrealist artist Remedios Varo and her characters, though they have an innocent calming quality seem to tell a darker mysterious story when set in her dream-like worlds. Lili has participated in several group exhibitions in and around Guadalajara.
